Layers #10 & #11
For Sale—$5699 for a set of (2) fiber collages by Pamela Mostek titled “Layers 10” and “Layers 11” They measure 5.5” x 7.75” exactly each. In addition, they are nicely mounted on painted black canvas with signature and title and a business card attached to the canvas on the back.
The idea behind these two stunning Asian moons is sparkle and gold encrusted thread. On “Layers 10” the moon is silver and black with which raw-edged appliquéd on top of a rectangle with Asian fabric with Asian gold lettering. The background is black with Asian lettering. There is one button with a gold swirl in it. Mostek has free-motion quilted and stippled with black, silver and gold threads for an appealing meandering of designs and lines.
“Layers 11” is a little bit of a different partner to “Layers 10” but quite in the same style and are meant to be sold as a pair. The moon, centered on the bottom right is rust, black, and silver with lots of copper thread all over the fiber collage. The moon lays over a small semi-circle of pure black which casts a nice shadow above the moon. Its thread is black. The overall background is black with Asian writing which she has free-motioned stitched in black thread to outline the lettering. As well as on the fiber art follows by a sweeping bow of black thread throughout the collage in the foreground. To top it off, there are 3 insert type fabric pieces that have Asian writing on them, stitched with gold thread for accent.
I think the pieces represent a different culture, a sub-division of life while the black says understatement and the gold says what an important endeavor language is in another’s culture and not to be taken for granted.
These art pieces would look wonderful in any home whoms décor is beige, or grey in style. Pamela Mostek is a fantastic artist, who truly has a place in the hearts and homes of Quilters across the nation, probably even the world, given that her fabric she designs is trademarked and distributed throughout Europe and Australia.

Jack Beverland is a visionary folk, also going by the names naïve and outsider art, is an artist living in San Antonio, FL. He also goes by the name Mr. B! There’s a time in everyone’s life where we must look at our situations and Jack is no different. In 1991 he suffered a complete career loss from a major corporation after serving 32 years of loyal employment. Born 1939, at 52 Mr. B was alone, depressed, anxious, loveless, and most of all suicidal. He couldn’t get a job anywhere. It was basically the worst kind of identity crisis imaginable. He even started to think, who canI kill to make this better. That never happened and he found something to calm him down.
Art is the great savior to those who are lost, tired, meek and weak. Mr. B was born poor and is a self-taught southern visionary folk artist. Or classified as an Outsider art. Beverland started his art career at age 58, this happened at the Vero Beach Art Museum and then was given a one-man art show. With the help of other people, those close to him, that love him very much, he was able to contain the angry beast of resentment and bitterness towards his job loss into art. Painting art reminds him of better times. The art helped turn misery into tolerance. He is extremely active in VSA Arts, a non-profit 501c for disabled artists. Mr. B has uncinate episodes which is controlled by Dilantin. He also has spina bifida occulta which results in numbness. He does not have any neuropathy or radiculopathy that is occasionally seen with spina bifida.
Life is better now. With love and support and a new marriage to Karen (who is almost always included in the paintings) he lives at the Tampa Bay Golf and Country Club Community. Governor Jeb Bush displayed paintings of his for 1 year in his office. His paintings feature animals, birds, trees with pointillism that are lush and full of landscape effects. He paints with 70 different acrylic colors on particle board recycled from the dump. His paintings are whimsical and are inspired from his roots in Idaho and as well as the southern rural life, and the grand landscape of Florida. You can feel and touch the art—he informs us. They are bright and glow in the dark, a neat feature for kids who like to see their bedrooms light up in the night.
